Teaching / Teaching Aid

Teachers at the CMLC come from all over the world and reflect the myriad skills, expertise, and culture of the CMLC community. We welcome you to propose teaching a class or workshop about anything that’s important to you!! Classes range from a couple hour workshop to a weekly class that meets for one to three months. We want the classes to reflect what you are excited to share.

Our top teaching needs are:
Teachers for our cooking workshops: No professional teaching experience required, propose to teach something familiar to you, close to your heart, that you can share a story or two about. Most cooking classes end with a shared meal or snack from the food made together. Paid opportunities available.
Leaders for Conversation Circles: These are informal gatherings for language practice and friendship building and we want Conversation Circle leaders for English and other languages! Note, if you propose to start a new Conversation Circle, we ask that you can commit to lead for at least one year. This is a great role to build lasting friendships together. All Conversation Circle leads are volunteers.
Teaching Assistants for English Class: This is a minimum of a one season (3 month) commitment to attend class weekly and support the learning environment in one of our adult English Classes. This is a great opportunity for anyone considering becoming a teacher, and/or wanting to get to know students in a more regular way. TAs are volunteers.

We are not currently hiring for any paid language teaching positions, including English. If you’d like to fill out a form to be emailed if a position opens in the future, you may, and we suggest you join our mailing list, as all open positions will be listed there.

Conversation Partner Program

The Conversation Partner Program is a unique opportunity for members of our international community to practice speaking English with a member of our local community in an informal, relaxed, and friendly setting. No training or specific curriculum is required. Each pair of partners decides what they want to talk about and how often to meet, with a goal of at least one hour per week. Once paired, partners meet regularly to practice English, learn about each other’s cultures, and explore the community together. We ask that once partnered, participants commit to a minimum of a season (3 month) of involvement in the program.
