English Classes

Emerging Beginner English Class
(Summer Intensive)

LEVEL: Beginner
taught in English

A class for new English speakers. Focus on speaking, reading and listening skills, with an emphasis on vocabulary. Similar to the Beginner Class, but specifically for learners with no previous experience with English.

Class limit: 8

Beginner English Class

Learn speaking, reading, listening, writing, grammar and vocabulary with an emphasis on real-life situations like talking to a doctor, handling emergencies, renting or buying a home, and visiting the vet.

Conversation Circles and Language Study

English Conversation Circle Lunch Potluck
(Beginner / Pre-intermediate)

Community practice for Advanced Beginner learners. New topics and learning each week. Build friendships while practicing English! Class members bring food to share at the potluck lunch.

Memoir Writing Workshop

LEVEL: All

Tell a piece of your personal story in this memoir workshop! We will craft stories inspired by ordinary objects that are important to our lives through various story-telling techniques. Stories shared will have the opportunity to be in an exhibit at the Corvallis Museum in Winter 2026, celebrating the many heritages in our Corvallis community! Participation in the exhibit is not required to participate in the memoir workshop. We invite people who have come here from other countries, who are newcomers to Corvallis, and/or who are English language learners to participate! All English learning levels are welcome.

Observational Drawing for Adults

LEVEL: all

Learn and practice observational drawing in a fun community atmosphere. We will draw with techniques that improve the connection between the eyes and the hands. The drawing exercises in the class will improve our attention and ability to draw from real life at the same time! All drawing abilities are welcome. Materials provided!

Acrylic Painting for Adults

This painting class ​requires no prior experience! We will explore essential skills and techniques in acrylic painting, such as color mixing, layering and glazing. We will experiment with themes and styles that give a professional feel to your artwork. With nature as our inspiration, we will create vibrant paintings that deserve a place on your wall.

Workshops

Cooking in Türkiye: Make Salmas Together

LEVEL: ALL
taught in English

Yaprak Sarmas are a quintessential dish in Turkish cooking made of rice and fresh herbs rolled into a pickled or fresh grape leaf and then slowly cooked in broth or water and often served with yogurt and herbs. Together we will learn to prepare the filling, and wrap and cook the intricate sarmas. In the end we will enjoy and eat together!

$15 materials fee

Cooking in Brasil: Pão de Queijo

LEVEL: all
taught in English

Together we will bake pão de queijo, a traditional Brazilian cheese bread, popularly enjoyed in the morning with coffee. We will go through each step of making the breads, fill them with goiabada (guava paste), learn about their history, and eat them together! The main ingredient is tapioca flour (cassava), so this pastry is naturally gluten-free. Recipe also contains dairy and eggs.

Peruvian Lunch: Papa a la Huancaina & Arroz con Pollo

LEVEL: all
taught in English

Cook a Peruvian lunch and eat together with the food we prepare! We will cook Papa a la Huancaina and Arroz con Pollo. Learn to combine the flavors of spices, chiles, and the cooking techniques to make this creamy potato appetizer and meal of chicken and rice. Lunch will contain chicken, milk, and be a bit spicy!
